Powder coating is a finishing technology where a decorative and highly protective coating can be applied to a wide range of products. The process involves spraying finely ground, electrostatically charged particles of pigment and resin onto the surface. The charged powder particles are attracted to the electrically earthed surface and then heated and fused in an oven giving a smooth finish.
Powder coating gives a durable, uniform finish which resists scratching, chipping, fading and wear. A wide range of colours and finish types are available suitable for interior and exterior use. They are environmentally friendly as there are no solvents or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).
Like painting a house, preparation is everything. Without proper pretreatment the coating may look good at first but will more quickly deteriorate and perhaps even fall off. At Christchurch Powdercoaters, we have a six stage pre-treatment process including a Deionization process for removing positive and negative ions from the water. The result of this process is water that has most of the dissolved minerals removed. In removing these minerals, it vastly improves the powder coat’s adhesion and lifespan.
At Christchurch Powdercoaters, we really know what we are doing. Because we are Registered Applicators, we follow the manufacturers guidelines. Each warrantable Architectural grade powder has its own comprehensive applicators manual detailing exact procedure from preparation, through application, documentation and testing. The registered applicators are subjected to regular audits, to confirm continued compliance to procedure and as a result of the audits the applicator is re-certified or in the case of non-compliance, is issued with actions designed to correct the non-compliance.
